At your first appointment we will begin with a history, collecting information from you regarding your condition, when it began, what might have caused it, what you have tried to remedy it and any other underlying conditions that might be helpful for us to know about.
Gait Analysis
Our assessment is comprised of analyzing your gait, testing range of motion and strength, and assessing current footwear and wear patterns. At that point if custom made orthoses are required, we will cast your feet. The orthoses will be made from this cast, so are truly custom-made for you. It is important to note that although orthoses play an important role in helping to improve foot function and reduce pain there is almost always something you can do to help. In many cases stretching and strengthening can be beneficial and we can suggest some exercises that can help to speed up the healing process and prevent future injuries.
Fitting Your Othoses
We will have you return two weeks later to fit and finish your orthoses. We take some time to ensure that they are fitting your feet properly and will make any adjustments that are necessary at that time. We will also make sure that your new orthoses are fitting into your footwear properly. The footwear and orthoses will be working as one unit to help reduce your discomfort and improve foot function which is why it’s extremely important to us to take the time to make sure they are complimenting one another. You will take your new orthoses home with you this same day and should be one step closer to happy feet.
